Here Together

$1.00$2.00

My most popular composition, this piece has been used at UUA General Assemblies, as the theme for a Sophia Fahs curriculum series, and at congregations across the globe.

Description

Originally an introit and benediction (designed to be used as musical “bookends” for start and close of worship), this piece was later expanded into a full choral anthem to fulfill an assignment for the UU Musicians Network Music Leadership Credentialing Program.  The lyrics to the piece express my personal ecclesiology: what it means to me to be part of a community of faith.

The refrains were featured at the Unitarian Universalist Association General Assembly 2013 in Providence, RI, and received Honorable Mention in the 2014 Silliman Hymn Competition of the UUMN.

The piece is available in either format:

Full Choral Anthem

To perform the full work with your choir, choose “full choral anthem” in the product options and purchase enough copies for each member of your choir.  (E.g., if you have 20 singers in your choir, purchase 20 copies.) Scores for accompanist and director, and permission to project lyrics, are included with purchase of five or more choral copies.

There is a place I love to call my own.
There is a peace I only feel
in sharing it with you,
and letting you share too.
It makes the welcome real.

Singing alone, it lets my heart shine through.
But there is a music in your soul
that joins its voice with mine.
It’s only then we find
the kind of peace we know is true.

We are here, here together,
in this holy moment,
and we’re grateful for
the winding road
that brought us to this place.

Even a word that left me bruised before,
even a name I’d learned to fear,
is welcome in this place.
It helps me see the face of God
to greet my outcasts here.

We are here, here together,
in this holy moment,
and we’re grateful for
the winding road
that brought us to this place.

And this dissonance we boldly sing
resolves us to one goal:

we will spend time together,
and these holy moments
give us strength to go
down the winding road
until we meet again.

We have spent time together,
and these holy moments
give us strength to go
down the winding road
until we meet again.

And my prayer for you
is a peace that’s true
until we meet again.
