Give It a Try

Look at the time. Have we been sitting here all night?
The check is paid, and our waiter’s at the bar,
reading want ads while he nurses his second beer.
He keeps looking over his shoulder.
I have to say, I wasn’t planning on tonight.
I told myself we’d grab a bite,
and I’d go back to my life,
which was by the way not so bad.
Now here you are, and I’m wondering.
I might just be dreaming. My friends might be right.
You might be the wrong one. This might not be the night.
But this could be a good thing.
Why don’t we give it a try?
I don’t know. I guess I’m hoping you’re hoping I’m
not to afraid to make a fool of myself here in this restaurant,
as the waiter turns off the lights.
I can’t see tomorrow. I can’t say I’m a prize.
I can’t say you know me. But look into my eyes.
This could be a good thing.
Why don’t we give it a try?
We could make this a good thing.
Why don’t we give it a try?
