My heart is aching.  Angry clouds fill the sky.
My heart is breaking.  Just look into my eyes.
And though I’m trying—I know life is worthwhile—
I can’t stop crying, though I try to smile.

I don’t need comfort.  I don’t need peace.
I don’t need prayers for healing.
I just need someone who can

cry with me, who can stand to see my pain.
You ask how you can help me, then you tell me it’s a shame.
But please just cry with me.  You don’t need to make me smile.
I know the sun will rise tomorrow, but today, for just a while,
I need to cry.  Please let me cry.

But do you feel it?  Feel that sting in your eyes?
Is your throat closing from trying not to cry?
Your breath is even as you watch from afar.
You’re not the blessing that you think you are.

Don’t offer comfort.  Don’t promise peace.
Don’t send up prayers for healing.
Just let them go, so you can

cry with me.  Can you stand to share my pain?
I know the dark is frightening, but I live here all the same.
So won’t you cry with me?  You don’t need to make me smile.
I know the sun will rise tomorrow, but today, for just a while,
I need to cry.  Please let me cry.

Cry with me.  Can you stand to share my pain?
I know the storm is frightening, but I need to feel the rain.
So won’t you cry with me?  You don’t need to make me smile.
I know the sun will rise tomorrow, but please just let me cry.
