Grateful (solo)

$20.00

When you ask someone as snarky as I am to write a song for a Thanksgiving worship service, this is what you get.  Sometimes speaking one's truth sounds like a country-and-western song, I suppose.  Charts for piano/vocal, optional fiddle, and optional string bass included.  (Also available for SATB choir.)

Lyrics

The table is empty.  The cupboards are bare.
I got no time to notice, much less to care.
There’s tinsel and sleigh bells on T.V. and in stores.
They’ve been there since October.  I can’t take it much more.
I’ve been working so hard to find something to be grateful for.

The bills in the mailbox, I pretend I don’t see.
I’ve got no way to pay ’em, but they won’t let me be.
The neighbors complain that my home’s an eyesore.
I’d invite them for coffee, but I can’t find the floor.
Yeah, I’m working so hard to find something to be grateful for.

But when you hear me singing my “woe is me” song,
you smile and you say it’s okay.
And your words make it so,
and at the end of the day,
I’m grateful I’ve got you to tell me I’m wrong.

Through sunset and sunrise, through blue skies and rain,
when I’m feeling comfort, when I’m feeling pain,
you tell me you love me, and you show me it’s true.
Life ain’t always easy, oh no,
but I’m grateful for you.
